The last days of The Odeon, Finchley

There's a docu film doing the rounds on Talking Pictures TV (freeview 81) at the moment called 'Orpheum' , shot in 1972, mainly showing the last days of the Odeon Finchley (latterly a furniture showroom and finally demolished this year.) There are lots of shots of the projectionist walking across the flat roof to get to the projection booth with his reels under his arm and firing up the projectors etc.

As it happens, my mum used to work there when Furnitureland had it. She reported that very little of the original insfrastruture survived although there was some evidence of the house lighting and other minor hints of a cinematogrpahic past. She had left before it wound down, so I wasn't in a position to have a rummage through what remained.
Black was always meant to be a phase. The neutral phase.
