Melotone on Radio 2

Postby Lucien Nunes » Wed Jan 11, 2012 2:04 am

If you didn't hear The Organist Entertains on Radio 2 tonight (10th Jan), the programme featured an interview with Richard Hills, discussing with Nigel Ogden his forthcoming CD on the Southampton Guildhall Compton due to be released on the organ's 75th birthday next month. You can hear it on iPlayer at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006wr9w for the next seven days. It's well worth a listen, as it introduces the many sides of the instrument with some excellent clips from the CD, a credit not only to Richard but to everyone involved especially Peter Hammond, without whom the organ would probably still be unheard and unplayable, Robert Rowley who has waved his magic wand at the pipework and many others. Richard weaves a soaring tapestry of ethereal sounds from the Melo in Trevor Duncan's 'Girl from Corsica'; close your eyes and drift away into another world. If you haven't got time to listen to the whole programme it's at 20'34".
