First EK open day to be held in Spring 2013

Postby Lucien Nunes » Wed Oct 26, 2011 12:08 pm

Yes, just 18 months away, an unusual and exciting electrical event to be held at EK.

The day will include demonstrations, talks, films, and lots of electrical kit plugged in and running for you to play with as well as some larger static exhibits to explore. There will be vintage vacuums and early microcomputers, diesel generators and teleprinters, a stage show with some high-voltage stuff, Colour Music duets to an Electrone accompaniment etc. etc.

Exact date and detailed location info we'll confirm nearer the time.
Be there and smell the ozone!

The big sortout begins in seven weeks time here in Barnet. There are two 7.5 tonner loads to pack, shift and unpack, then two artic loads that are already packed. By far the hardest task is to clear the display area of long-term / low priority / junky items and move the display material into its place. If this can be completed by the end of 2012, we will have a few months to built the first displays. The only construction project I can foresee getting underway before 2013 is the theatrical lighting rig, which by its size and ability to clear many items off the shelves (lights are bulky!) is an integral part of the move-around.

The targets are as follows:
1 July - Racking erected in inaccessible areas of stores / access cleared
1 August - Items from Barnet moved to display areas / racking as required
1 September - Non-display items moved out to inaccessible areas of stores
1 October - Display items from inaccessible part of stores moved to display areas
1 November - Display items moved into approximate positions
1 December - Display / lighting rig construction begins

The TV section now needs to be bumped up the priority list because we will be able to display a very interesting and unusual item - possibly the only fully working discrete-transistor standards converter in the UK. More on this later.
