Thought I'd say Hi

Postby 00mattym » Fri Nov 09, 2012 9:50 pm

Hello I'm new, I just thought I'd say hi! I'm an electrician from sunny old somerset, recently I have developed a passion for old electrical items, mainly chunky high voltage stuff- big isolators and busbar chambers and the like. I'm also quite fond of any older bit of kit that has visible copper or exposed windings or mechanisms, as much as anything else i find them a wonder to look at. I am fairly young therefore fairly new to the industry that may be why i like the older items, because you dont see them as much nowadays. Although luckily my work does take me to alot of older building that have the older bits of kit to get my hands on.

I recently aquired a few bits and I'll post some pictures soon they include a Aron clock meter and a couple of 3 phase fan controllers with dual speed switchovers and cutouts.

Anyway thats me. Matt

Hi Matt
Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you are collecting interesting things on your travels. There are a few other electricians here who collect switchgear and plant so please do post some pictures of your new toys as you find them - we all like seeing the shiny bits! Incidentally the Milne electrical collection at Amberley has a nice selection of Aron clock meters including a couple on demonstration duty, John Narborough the curator is also an expert on them. If you haven't visited there yet, it's well worth a visit next time you're heading Eastwards.

Black was always meant to be a phase. The neutral phase.

Hi, welcome!

Glad you are saving some of the old items you come across, a lot of the old stuff is vanishing fast now.

Please post pictures of the items you have, I collect mainly domestic and industrial switchgear and like to see what is being saved by other collectors.

Hi Matt,

And welcome. Glad to see another member is interested in saving some of the older items, it's getting more important than ever as time goes on!

We'd all like to see some pics when you have time to post.

Regards,

Dave
