Website upgrade for 2014

Postby Lucien Nunes » Tue Jan 07, 2014 12:00 am

I seem to spend an increasing amount of time talking about exhibits that are not yet shown on the website, so as we get back up to speed for 2014 after the semi-hiatus of 2013 we've planned a major content update. This in turn will require improvements to the structure, suggested by Richard some time ago but not yet implemented due to lack of time and not wanting to fix something that wasn't broken. The website started out as a preview of the exhibition, but we are persuaded by many positive comments and suggestions that it is a resource in itself, which should represent as much of the inventory as practical. This would overwhelm the present navigation layout, so the idea is to replace the 'area' and 'room' tabs and the topic 'mini-menu' bars with a drop-down multi-level menu, which should be more flexible for large quantities of incoming material. Of course I said that about the current setup, which is attractive and practical at the moment but became harder to follow when we experimented with adding further levels.

One of my new years' resolutions is to start using a wider range of media, so the Electrokinetica Youtube channel and Facebook page need to get a boost too. I'll link from here when there's new content to see.
